42. He’s Paying Less, She’s Paying More
So we’ve covered already how there is a wage gap between men and women where women tend to make less money than men. Are you ready to hear that women also have to pay more for various products and services then men? It’s no wonder that women make up a majority of those living in poverty. It starts with little things in the drug store like more expensive shaving cream, Excedrin and shampoos (more on that here). Then our haircuts cost much more than men’s. Then we’re charged more for cars and automobile repairs because women are considered to be less knowledgeable in this area and easier to screw over and make higher profits. Then a study in 2007 by the Consumer Federation of America found that women were paying more for their mortgages. Then a study from Harvard Medical School found that women pay more for health coverage. And all for what, because of a difference in chromosomes and internal plumbing? Not cool.
